My favorite Sahaba

Experience by Ishrat Ali
Bismillah Ar Rahman Ar Raheem. All Praise be to Allah Subhana Wa Ta’ala. I love all the Sahabas. SubhanAllah I always learn so much from them. Their stories are very inspiring and it really makes me feel great.

There is one Sahaba, who is my favorite. His name is Umar bin Al Khattab RadiAllahu Anhu.

My heart beats faster when I think of him. In school, I always wanted to be just like him. I used to be very strict when it comes to following Islam. I could not see anyone doing wrong; I had to stop them right away. I was more of “Fitnah Police”. It wasn’t easy and it only made me lose friends but I was all happy Alhamdulillah.

In the class, when I used to enter. People were so aware of me that they would stop doing (if they were doing something wrong) what they were doing.

My favorite book is Ar Raheeq Al Makhtum, The biography of Allah’s Messenger Muhammad SalAllahu Alayhi Wa Sallam. This is that first book in which I actually got to know more about Umar bin Al Khattab RadiAllahu Anhu. Later I read more about him.

In the book I read,

“‘Umar bin Al-Khattab RadiAllahu Anhu, at the head of a 30-soldier group, set out to a spot called Turbah in Sha’ban 7 A.H. to discipline the people of Hawazin. He no sooner arrived at their habitation that they fled for their lives. “ – Ar Raheeq Al Makhtum page 446

He was a brave Sahabah. Allah’s Messenger SalAllahu Alayhi Wa Sallam was so happy when he embraced Islam.

Narrated ‘Amr bin Al-‘Aas RadiAllahu Anhu: The Prophet SalAllahu Alayhi Wa Sallam deputed me to lead the army of Dhar-as-Salasil. I came to him and said, “Who is the most beloved person to you?” He said, “‘Aisha.” I asked, “Among the men?” He said, “Her father.” I said, “Who then?” He said, “Then ‘Umar bin Al Khattab.” He then named other men.” (5:14-O.B) (Sahih Al Bukhari)
